Figgy What

I recently stumbled across Figgy and haven't been able to stop listening to his crunkalicious tracks since. The guy hails from New England in Massachusetts and uses some live programs to get the crowd involved. Figgy needs to come up to Canada and smash ear drums!

New Kyprios Album

Kyprios from the MC collective Sweatshop Union has come out with another solo effort. It has been awhile since his last solo album, five years to be exact. I think it might have something to do with Sony signing him to a deal and not knowing how to market a hip hop Mc in Canada.

But his new anticipated album 12:12 is great from front to back, I really enjoyed the production of Moka Only and Rob the Viking
. It would be great if Kyprios would take it back to early in the millennium and start another poetry night.

Shamik, Chris Derksen & Tedx

Cris Derksen & Shamik Live @ TEDx Vancouver from Shamik on Vimeo.

This past weekend I attended the first ever TEDx conference here in Vancouver, well Burnaby technically as it was at EA. But needless to say it was one of the most inspiring events I have attended in a long time. There was a lot of creative people who came together, shared and networked.

My favorite performance was Shamik and Chris Derksen but I will touch on that in a second. First I wanted to draw attention to Kevin Caroll who through the power of sport has changed lives around the world. The way this man tells a story captivates the room and has people hanging off his every word.

Second would have to be Neill Blomkamp , who at first we found out wasn't there I was really disappointed. But than I was blown away by his video he made especially for the event about ET's. It was informative and gave me insight to many different theories of our great Universe.

Last but not least is Shamik & Derksen, I wasn't prepared for the collaboration of these two different musicians. But what ensued was an amazing marriage of sounds that pleased everyone in the room out of their seats into a standing ovation.

Keys N krates Mix Tape

Comprised of an award-winning DJ, Jr Flo, Matisse on keys and Adam Tune on drums, rocked our world last year when they played the Taste Crew/URB Holiday party in NYC. One year later, and these guys from Toronto are taking their show across the U.S., including two SoCal dates this weekend. (URB)

I saw Jr Flo ten years ago kill it playing hip hop and drum n bass when I lived in Ottawa. Now with the live instruments brought into what seems to be a 30 minute explosion of nothing you have ever seen. These guys kill it on a whole other level, which I got to experience last year in Winnipeg. My good friend Ofield from Grand Analog opened up for them and if wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have been able to experience their live show. The only thing is that when it ends you wish it wasn't so short.

Rusko & Kid Sister

The last time Rusko remixed Kid Sister's track it was for Pro Nails and it was one of the best tracks I heard in a long time. This time around I feel Rusko has left his Dubstep roots behind and has gone a little more on the safe tip. Kid Sister's new album just came out last week with a lot of great collaborations, its just too bad this one didn't work this time.

Wu-Tang Dubstep Album

For Immediate Release
Wu-Tang Meets The Indie Culture Vol. 2: Enter The Dubstep…

Frank Radio and iHipHop Distribution are proud to announce the highly anticipated follow-up to 2005’s “Wu-Tang Meets The Indie Culture Vol. 1″
On November 10th, the newest and freshest sounds in underground electronic music encounter the grimiest and most hardcore hip-hop click in this one-of-a-kind album: “Wu-Tang Meets The Indie Culture Vol. 2: Enter The Dubstep.”

As Vol. 1 sought to introduce hip-hop fans in general, and specifically, the famously large, loyal and diverse fan-base of the Wu-Tang to the burgeoning world of underground hip-hop, so Vol. 2 seeks to expose another untapped resource of underground talent, skill and artistry to this very same avid and intrepid fan-base.

The project serves a double purpose as well: many of the pioneers and practitioners (DJ’s and producers) in the Dubstep world came up in a time when Wu-Tang ruled the international airwaves. Unlike much commercial hip-hop, the immediacy of Wu-Tang’s sound spoke to many outside of the scope of the typical hip-hop fan, across oceans and at home. Their music and style helped to shape an emerging artform that hadn’t yet defined itself. Now, in 2009, as dubstep continues to grow, expand and encompass more styles and subgenres, the Wu-Tang sound is reintroduced into the mix, to spawn a new and unique musical crossbreeding, that is greater than the sum of its constituent parts.

Copyleft vs. Copyright

Recently I wrote my minister of Industry about the issue of Canadian Copyright laws. This is an important issue for everyone involved, I feel like we cannot get roped into the same thing that happened in the U.S.A.

But with huge industry lobbyist's from the U.S , does our Government even stand a chance?! I don't think so, not getting e-mail's like this back:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding copyright. I appreciate being advised
of your views and have noted your comments.

Like you, many people are concerned with copyright and its implications in
our increasingly digital environment. The Government of Canada believes
that Canadians themselves must be able to contribute if future legislation
is to be a true reflection of Canada’s interests. For this reason, the
Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage, and I have recently
concluded nationwide consultations to solicit Canadians’ opinions on the
important issue of copyright.

The consultations took place from July 20 to September 13, 2009, and were
a step forward in fulfilling the government’s commitment to ensure a
modern and responsive legislative framework. Our goal was to give
Canadians from across the country a chance to express their views on how
the government should approach the modernization of copyright laws.
Through these consultations, we have heard the views of a wide range of
individuals and organizations. More information about these
consultations, including access to transcripts of the roundtable and town
hall discussions and to the submissions of participants, can be found at
the Copyright Consultations website at www.copyrightconsultation.ca.

At this time, we are taking stock of the submissions made by Canadians and
the discussions that took place during the consultation period. With
these in mind, the federal government will draft and table new
legislation. Although the consultations have concluded, rest assured that
your comments will be given due consideration as we move forward with
copyright modernization.

Once again, thank you for writing and please accept my best wishes.

Yours sincerely,

Tony Clement

Getting Crunk Wit It

If a robot could drink juice it would be Lil Jon's crunk juice, the stuff is pure sugar. The thing I don't get is that all these energy drinks come out and they are sugar free. How for the love all that is holy is something that tastes so sugary sugar free.

Matt The Alien

M T A or Matt The Alien is one of my favorite DJ's, his skill on the tables is second to none. He just made a new mix on Soundcould for his new Really Good Podcast Mix Series. You say you don't know about soundcloud well lets just say it what Myspace was meant to be.
